Irritable Bowel. . . Oh The Torture!

One of our favorite symptoms! Yuck. . . oh the pain , the misery , the agony! The feeling of bloating, gas pains and ache. How about the shooting pains that make you want to pass out, but instead all we can do is cry and pray for it all to be over soon! You hurt so much that you can't hardly talk at times. You wish for it all to end , then all of a sudden it is over and then the next round is either not far off or there shortly after. Usually we have a certain time of day this strikes us. Either morning , after we eat , dinnertime, before bed or even during bedtime. We wake with the pain and run for the bathroom hoping we are going to make it in time. Sounds gross right, especially to those who don't have IBS; but to most of us , it is a daily problem. Food sometimes makes it worse! It is a horrible experience. I sometimes try to cry out to my Husband , even though I know he cannot possibly help me, but to just have someone to complain to I guess. Sometimes I just say" I feel like I am dying!" Sounds familiar?? You mabey thinking , "This woman is crazy! She talks about her bathroom problems to everyone who will read about it!" But actually , there are a few people out there who may chuckle at the fact that someone knows exactly what it feels like to be "dying on the toilet!" It may be comforting to know that in the midst of our most personal of times , that someone out there is thinking the exact same thing as you and feeling it too! Don't fret because most of us know , it is a rough way to find relief. We have to go thru the pain of "childbirth" so to speak to find bowel relief. Hang in there Guys and Gals. Just remember there are 6 million people out there that may be sharing your experience at the same exact moment! Now that's comical. hehehe
ok lets see , Why IBS and why does it feel like this??
I am going to give you the best explaination I have available to me right here. This is something I am taking from Dr.Devin Starlanyl and DR.Mary Ellen Copeland. They have the best book available on the market today with awesome facts on this subject and many others. You find a lot of quotes from them here on my site. The book is: Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain a Survival Manual Second Edition.
Here it is:
People with CMP (Chronic Myofascial Pain) and FMS often have ittitable Bowel Syndrome. (IBS) With this condition, muscles contract and relax at the wrong time. leading to a number of unpleasant symptoms. These symptoms include a varying diarrea and dry constipation. You may have a crampy urge to go but find that you cannot. You may also experience irregular contractions of the large intestines, bloating from gas,and hypersensitivity. Normally, the nerve endings in the gut transmit feelings only of fullness and stretching. With IBS, you can have pain as well.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome can disrupt your life. You may be afraid to go out because of your unpredictable symptoms. It can interfere with your travel plans and your ability to work. Usually the symptoms of IBS result from a combination of several factors. Poor nutrition, and stress may aggrivate IBS. Attention to diet ,exercise, and stress reduction can help. Talk with your pharmacist about your medications. Some medications can cause side effects that can be similar or contribute to IBS.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome does not cause inflammatory changes. It is not the same as ulcerative colitis. Stress worsens but does not cause IBS. IBS cause no bleeding, fever ,significant weight loss,or severe, persistent pain. If you do have these symptoms, see your Doctor right away.
