Sometimes when you see your favorite super hero , do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to have all those super powers? Do you think to yourself , If had had powers , mabey I wouldn't feel this way at all!
It is unfortunate that we all don't have super hero powers , then we could be strong and make all the pain disappear. But we can help ourselves feel better by teaching ourselves how to take better care of our bodies to help the pain not feel so bad all the time. The pain will always be there , but you may find that you could have days that you feel not as bad as some others.

So first thing we do is learn a few things about this thing we call Fibromyalgia ( fi bro mi al ga ). We call it FMS for short. It can be really hard to say the whole word. ( Even adults sometimes cannot pronounce it right )
FMS can be a very sore illness , where sometimes you hurt all over , or mabey only in certain areas like your arms and hands. Mabey even your legs and feet. Some people say it hurts their shoulders and backs. People who have FMS complain that somedays they can't think very well , or remember things. They are tired alot and need a lot of sleep. There are a lot of things people have a hard time with because of this illness. What may seem scary sometimes, isn't always scary, especially when you know why you feel the way you do. It is something that can not be helped. People with FMS may not look sick on the outside , but inside they feel yucky. Sometimes they feel like they have the flu. Now that is no fun at all is it? But one thing is for sure . . . Fibromyalgia is not a deadly illness so you won't die from it. It just makes doing things a little bit harder than things would be for normal people who may not have FMS.

If you feel sore , sometimes you can't sleep well. You may even be up alot during the night. You may feel sore and don't feel much like playing . Sometimes when you feel that way , you should just lay down and take a nap , or just relax by sitting and reading a book. Sometimes making yourself get up and walk around helps too. When you feel tired , make sure to take special care of yourself and rest often so you won't make your pain worse. Sometimes doing stretches help , but don't over exercise because that may make you not want to exercise at all. Sometimes when you over do it , you feel worse afterwards. Talk to your doctor and see what they say you can do to help you feel comfortable. There are things they can do to help you not hurt so much. Just ask them and if they don't make you feel better , then talk to your parents or guardian about seeing a new doctor. There are alot of Doctors out there that do understand FMS , but there are some still who do not know a whole lot . It is always best to find someone who does. That way , if you have any questions , then they know how to answer them.

One thing is for sure , if you do feel bad inside and hurt alot , make sure to tell your parents or Guardian! Never keep it to yourself. That way someone will know you feel the way you do and can help you. It is hard to hurt and have no one to believe you. Make sure that you find someone to tell that you trust. You need to tell them where you hurt and how mcuh you hurt. Make sure that even if someone doesn't believe you , that you find someone that does. Never give up. You know you hurt , so don't let anyone tell you that it is all in your head and you are making it up. When you tell someone how you feel , tell them to look up FMS on the internet. Tell them to type in www.dogpile.com
that is a big search engine and have them type in FMS . Then a bunch of information will come up on the subject and they may then feel they need to take you to a doctor and get you some help to make you feel a little better. Like I said , the pain will always be there but there are ways to help make the pain better so it doesn't hurt so bad all the time.

Remember , you may not be a super hero but you CAN BE A HERO by telling someone how you feel. Did you know that by telling someone about FMS , you may be a hero to another boy or girl? You may be the one who helps them feel better by being the one who works with doctors in finding a cure! WOW. . . that is what being a hero is all about. Saving one person from pain. If you do have FMS , be a hero by telling others about the illness and read about it , learning all you can. You are the hope for the children of tomorrow. You are a HERO!
