My Story This is my story from beginning to now with Fibromyalgia. I hope to keep a journal of sorts adding new information as I come a crossed it and being as honest as I can about how this has affected me and my family.
I am 41, a single mother of three beautiful girls and two grand daughters. My life revolves around them and I truly am blessed.
I have in my opinion had this for about a year and a half but was officially diagnosed in November 2003. I started with a fall on my slick driveway and hurting my hip. I starting seeing an orthopedic doctor and a physical therapist. I was tried on one medication after another and I just could not shake the pain. I had a MRI which did not show a pinched nerve,so continued to go to physical therapy. Then in August of 2003 I went in for a tummy tuck. Went through surgery and was taken back to my room and within 15 minutes my blood pressure started falling and I was loosing blood internally. I was rushed back into surgery because I guess a main artery was not closed. I went home weak from the operation and not feeling like myself. I kept fainting and loosing my balance. The plastic surgeon kept telling me everything was okay and it would just take awhile, that my body was opened up twice and it needed more time to recoup. Three weeks later the pain was still there and the plastic surgeon was not wanting to give me anything for pain. I went to my primary doctor and he did some blood work and my iron level was 9, never in my life has it been that low. I really don’t understand why my blood was not monitored from the beginning but that is a mistake most of us make we think a doctor knows everything and we should not question it. Well that explained the dizziness and the low energy but not the pain. I was sent home with some iron pills and something for pain.
Okay jump to November and I just could not get over this pain that would not quit over my entire body. I hurt constantly, couldn't sleep, and had no energy. My doctor sent me to the neurologist and he said I may have some disorder where basically my body was allergic to it's own muscle. I was almost relieved to have a diagnoses for the way I was feeling. Well the blood work came back fine, no disease and no hypothyroidism. Okay at this point I am hurting, tired and go into my doctors just crying. He sent me to a rheumatologist, and I had already been doing my own research on the internet and I was positive it was either MS or Fibromyalgia. The Rheumy did his exam and said that I have Fibromyalgia. I was happy to finally have a name for what ailed me but unhappy with the doctor, I will explain later. From there I have done my research and have tried to aid in my treatment to get some of my life back at least.
